Itinerary
Day 1-
This tour begins at 9:00 AM at our office in Ancud or your hotel.
Short historical-natural history talk before heading into the
rolling countryside of the island. We will start our day's
trek from the remote coastal area of Guabun, where the Sendero de
Chile begins. We'll cross rugged beaches, picturesque bays,
wind-stunted forests and more, having a picnic along the way.
By late afternoon we will arrive to our cabins overlooking the
Punihuil penguin colony in time to take a 30 minute boat ride to
enjoy the rich marine life of this famed Natural Monument. A
hearty meal of fresh local seafood (with other options available)
and a comfortable night sleep.
Day 2-
We'll do exploring during the morning of nearby hidden bays before
taking off on our 4 hour hike into the forests and mountains of
this breathtaking part of the world. We'll descend to the
massive Chepu beach and by mid-afternoon we'll arrive at the
Mirador de Chepu, a cozy ecological operation (wind/solar powered)
overlooking the junction of two rivers. Dinner with the
area's warm hosts and night spent in their cabins.
Day 3-
For those up for a very special experience, we'll arise early to
enter our kayaks and paddle out among the silent trunks of the
sunken forest of Chepu (caused by the 1960's earthquake) awaiting
the first rays of dawn. As the sun begins to rise, the fog
covering the waters begins to life and the area's birds burst
forth in song. It is truly a unique experience. We'll
then return to the Mirador for a hearty breakfast and time to
relax. We'll visit a nearby family for a walk in their
forest and lunch before returning to Ancud by mid-afternoon.
